Your Friday Deuce: Two New Truck Accessories

Soccer Ball To The Face

You’re probably too distracted thinking about tomorrow’s big Cameroon v. Denmark World Cup match, but you might be interested in knowing that we added a couple new truck accessories up onto the site this week. Check ’em out:

Westin Xtreme Push BarSimmer down, rock kids. This is not a new Gary Cherone band—it’s a new stainless steel grille guard from Westin. Instead of being constructed from teeth whitener, spray-on tan juice and hair activator like Mr. C, your Push Bar is built from T304 stainless steel.

Putco LED Headlight StripsWant an Audi look but only have an AMC budget? You could harvest some eggs and sell them to a barren couple for a good chunk of change. Of course, the big bucks come from being a surrogate, but that’s a recipe for varicose veins. The affordable alternative: string a line of these custom-designed LED lights from Putco under your headlights. At night, no one will be the wiser.

New Kayak Racks, LED Lights and Automotive Kitsch, Oh My

Howling at the Moon

Full moons affect us in primal ways. No, we don’t go gallivanting around the countryside tearing open the bellies of surfs and snacking on their entrails. We work. And we work some more. And we collapse exhausted. Then, we wake up, dust the Pringles crumbs off our chests, and report on the aftermath. Here’s one such reporting:

Thule Top Deck Kayak RackPut on your barfly thinking cap for a minute—the Thule Top Deck may not be a top-shelf kayak rack, but Popov comforts just as well as Grey Goose and leaves you with some spare Washingtons for a pickled egg dinner.

Pulstar Eco-MPG Series Spark Plugs—These Pulstar spark plugs would definitely be cooler if they had a Flux Capacitor inside, but their standard capacitor does have the power to boost your MPGs up to 10%. Not too shabby for a spark plug.

Pulstar Performance Series Spark Plugs—If your allegiances lean more towards Sterling Moss than Iron Eyes Cody, these performance Pulstar plugs juice your ignition system with up to 12% more horsepower.

The BedRug BedTred Truck Bed Liner: A New Way to Protect your Truck Bed

Remember when spray-in truck bed liners were all the rage? I can’t remember the exact date, but it was sometime between the advent of Ron Propeil’s GLH-9 Hair in a Can Spray and the Snuggie. (I don’t use a calendar, but I can tell the relative date of important events by where they fit on my infomercial timeline.)

Spray-in truck bed liners are a lot like Billie Mays’ the Big City Slider Station—seems like a good idea, but it just doesn’t work out well in practice. The biggest problem? You can’t take it out! It’s there for life, like it or not.

There are some great advantages to spray-in bed liners. Namely, their textured surface helps stop your stuff from sliding around. And, they do protect your bed from scratches. But, that doesn’t really make up for the permanent disfigurement.

I’ve got some good news: we just added a new accessory onto our site that gives you all the benefits of a spray-in liner without any of the drawbacks—the BedRug BedTred truck bed liner. It’s constructed from a 0.25” thick composite material with the same anti-slide texture as a spray-on bed liner. It mounts with a sturdy hook and loop system, so you can take it out without having to break out your jackhammer. And, this BedRug is custom designed for a perfect fit.

2009 Dodge Ram – LA Auto Show

2009 Dodge Ram

As fun as SEMA was, we didn’t get our fill of that new car smell, so one of the AutoAnything crew hit the LA Auto Show last week to pickup the scent once again.

One truck in particular caught our eye; the ’09 Dodge Ram.  Believe me when I say that this ain’t yo daddies 1500!  The exterior has some significant yet subtle changes that improve the looks and add functionality.  Optional two-tone paint adds a nice touch, as do the extra chome accents on the door handles and mirrors.  Dodge has also revolutionized the truckbed with toolboxes that are integrated into the sides of the bed.  The RamBox Storage System is paint-matched, lockable, weatherproof, drainable and illuminated for the ultimate style, utility and convenience.  The addition of chrome-tipped dual exhaust system integrated into the rear bumper finishes off the rear end nicely.  Not only has Dodge redesigned the Ram on the outside, but it’s all new on the inside too.

More interior options like heated and cooled front seats and a 7.1 surround sound system that will rock whatever you load up in the integrated multimedia and navigation system.  The nav system, dubbed uConnect, has a slew of new features including bluetooth, wifi, integrated Sirius Satellite radio and a 30 gigabyte hard drive.  The all-new dash board looks both clean and functional; dual glove compartments give ample storage room while stitching accents the instrument panel.  The Ram Crew cab is even more spacious in the rear with innovative “store in the floor” bins that have removable liners for easy cleaning.

Dodge has stuck with the 5.7-liter hemi for the top-o-the-line power plant, but you can also get a 4.7-liter flex fuel V8 or a 3.7-liter V6.  The rear suspension has been given new coil springs and a mulit-link design to maximize towing capacity without sacrificing ride quality.  I’d suggest taking a look at the RamChallenge to find out how much more capable the horned beast has become… plus it’s pretty entertaining to watch.
