Super Car Showdown: Bugatti Veyron vs. McLaren F1

Bugatti Veyron vs Mclaren F1
The production crew over at Top Gear has outdone themselves once again. This could be called the ultimate drag race. A showdown of Goliath and Goliath. In the right lane, we have a McLaren F1, the former champion of all things speed. In the 1990’s, the F1 broke the world record for the fastest production car by hitting 242 MPH. 15 years later, the Bugatti Veyron became the new heavy-weight champion, breaking the 250 MPH barrier and setting the record at 252 MPH. Although SSC’s Ultimate Aero and the Porsche 9ff GT9 claim faster speeds than the Veyron, neither of them are as refined or polished as the Veyron. If I were to choose one of these, the Veyron would most certainly be my choice.

The Car Industry May be Suffering, but Ferrari California Sold Out Until 2010 – AutoAnything

Car makers around the world are feeling the heat as the US economy slows down to a crawl.  Hit hardest are the manufacturers who’s bread-and-butter were gas guzzling SUV’s and trucks.  Company’s like Honda and Toyota staying afloat well, but Ford, GM, Dodge, and a handful of other companies are scrounging to develop a fuel efficient car so they don’t drown in debt.

Ferrari, on the other hand, has decided to keep doing what they do best: build fast cars with impeccable style.  The Ferrari California has been criticized by a lot of Automotive journalists, but I’ve always liked it.  It kind of reminds me of the Artega GT.  I guess I’m not alone because Ferrari announced today that all 2008 and 2009 models have been pre-sold.

Costing $240,000, the California is not cheap, but Ferrari does throw a 460hp, 4.3-liter V8 into the deal.  Since Ferrari is making 2,000 units per production year, they’ll have a good inflow of cash for the next 2 years.  When it rains it pours, that’s why Ferrari brought their umbrella.

Concept: MCE MC1 Super Car

It’s been a while since I’ve seen a concept super car that really wow’d me, but I recently stumbled across this little gem that was created in a joint venture between MotorCity and C2P Automotive.  It’s powered by a 600HP V10 sitting in an all-carbon fiber monocoque chassis.  With 20″ wheels up front and 21″ wheels in the back, this ride has got the rubber to put all that power down in style.  Physically, it’s a little shorter and narrower than a Murcielago LP640, but 15 mm higher.

While this car is still only a concept, both companies are seeking more funding to put it into production.  I sure hope they find it, because this car is gorgeous!

Chevy Corvette ZR-1 Specs Released

Today Chevy released the official numbers for their legendary race car.  For $103,000 you can rocket up to 60 mph in just 3.4 sec, run the quarter-mile in 11.3 sec at around 131mph, and then keep you can keep that petal floored until you hit 205 mph.  The performance figures are quite impressive, as is the thorough use of carbon fiber…but what we at AutoAnything want to know is how fast it’ll run around the Nurburgring!  Can Chevy fulfill the Corvette’s destiny to be King of the ‘Ring, or will Nissan hold onto that title for a while longer?  Let me know what you think, pictures of the new Vette are below.
