Ken Block Scares and Impresses Dirt2 Video Game Testers, Gets Mad Respect

Ken Block is good at driving. By good, we mean epic… and by driving, we mean drifting. Not only is he impressive to watch, but apparently being his co-pilot offers more thrills than the Kingda Ka. At the launch of Dirt2, Ken got to put the pedal to the metal for some video game testers, causing men to silently scream in terror and cry tears of joy.

Gymkhana 2.1

That’s right, it’s version 2.1; a minor upgrade? Not really, it’s more like something to keep you happy until the release of Gymkhana 3. Ken Block, master of all things drift, teamed up with Rob Deryk from MTV’s Fantasy Factory to release this 2-part’s crazy, 1-part parody video to show just how safe reckless you can be using a 540+hp STi and a go cart.  Looks like fun!

Ken Block Hits the Salt Flats

Ken Block Bonneville Salt Flats

His 566 horsepower STi is pretty insane. With 590 ft-lbs of torque, his Impreza can sprint to 60MPH in 3 seconds flat. But that torque can be used for other things as well, like towing people on plastic trash cans…

Ken Block and his crew are at it again, but this time they are out setting some land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats using some less-than-traditional methods of transportation; trashcans, big wheels and plastic snow-sled from Wal-Mart. Good stuff, check out the mischief after the jump…

RE: Ken Block’s Gymkhana Videos

Armed with a beaten up Subaru Impreza, 5 spare tires, an armory of fireworks and an apparently fearless crew of buddies, here is IMV’s response to Ken Block’s Gymkhana videos. I’m not even sure what to say about this spoof, except racing on public roads is bad, mmmk?!

Disclaimer:  What happens in this video is highly illegal, do not attempt to duplicate, imitate or recreate any of the stunts performed in this video… or else!

Crap: Subaru is Leaving the WRC

subaru-rally-car-in-greece-2008

Times must be tough if the auto maker who made it’s name competing in the World Rally Championship is dropping out.  Sure, participating in the WRC is expensive, but it’s crucial for two things; R&D and marketing.  Subaru’s philosophy has always been to make safe, reliable cars that were fun to drive.  They incorporated lessons learned from the WRC into every vehicle they made.  Improvements to the engines, braking, handling, chassis structure and more were all derived from their Rally heritage.

It was probably tough for Subaru to bite the bullet on this, but maybe it makes immediate financial sense and will play into a longer-term strategy toward fuel efficiency, something Rally isn’t exactly known for.  As governement regulations get tighter across the board, Auto manufacturers can get pushed into a corner.  I never would have thought Suburu would drop their WRC team, but maybe it’s their only option for long term survival.

Goodbye SWRT and good luck to both Atkinson and Petter, two of my favorite WRC drivers.  Hit the jump to read the full press release.

Sports Cars and Super Cars from SEMA 2008

Now that SEMA is officially over, our AutoAnything crew has returned home to the nest.  But they didn’t come back empty handed.  Our photography buffs were able to get some great shots at SEMA this year.  This first post includes photos of both super cars and sports cars alike, from the Subaru STi to the Ferrari California, from an old school Pontiac GTO to the new school Audi R8.  There’s more photos on the way, so stay tuned!

Incredible Drifting and Death Defying Stunts in a Subaru Rally Car

Ken Brock Does Donuts Around a Segway

You may or may not know the name Ken Block. If you haven’t heard his name before, he is a Subaru rally driver and co-founder of DC Shoes. He’s also the man who made a 171-foot jump in a Subaru Rally car. He is two things. First: an incredible driver. Second: utterly insane.

Here is an absolutely ridiculous video of Ken driving his 530WHP Subaru STi around the El Toro airfield in his Gymkhana car. Not only does he push his Impreza STi the very limits, but he does donuts around a guy who is riding a segway. Enjoy.
