Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Superchips Tuners (But Were Afraid To Ask)

Superchips

Some questions are best left unasked. Should I have waited 30 minutes after eating before jumping into that pond? Should I have imported a Croatian bride sight unseen? Should I have seen the doctor before it turned green?

Other questions, though, are best left asked. Is this half and half expired? Is that hitchhiker twitching too much to pick up? What’s the difference between the different Superchips programmers? Today, we’ll answer one of those questions. Since dairy and dudes on the side of the road with their thumbs drawn are beyond our expertise, we’ll stick with what we know: Superchips. Hennessey Dyno’s their LS9 Powered Camaro

Hennessey Camaro LS9 Dyno

Well Hennessey did it; they were able to squeeze the LS9 into a Camaro and they have officially finished tuning that beast. Here’s the video of the first dyno… can you say torque-tastic?

Haven’t you always wanted a Truck with 2,700 Horsepower?

Turbo Jet Powered Ford F150
So did Chris Lentz. He’s actually wanted one for several decades, but his dream finally came true when he found a Czechoslovakian Motorlet M-701 turbo jet for sale. $10K later and a whole lot of JB Weld, the turbo jet was secured to the bed of his 2005 F150 STX. Despite the huge levels of power, this truck is still kinda slow; 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, finishing the quarter mile in 16.3 @ 103 MPH. Faster than a stock F150, yes. Slower than a stock Honda Civic SI, yes. But it’s not the lack of power, its all the extra weight. With the jet mounted to the truck bed, the curb weight of the F150 is a touch over 6,600 lbs! This must be the fastest truck in that weight class, and the coolest truck in any class. Video after the jump:

It Fits! ZR1 LS9 in the New Camaro

2010 Hennessey LS9 Camaro

Hennessey announced today that it was able to squeeze in the 640 horsepower LS9 into the engine bay of the new Camaro. By the looks of the photos, the engine fits quite nicely.  This is a considerable upgrade from the Camaro’s optional V8, but Hennessey wasn’t happy with just 640 ponies. Oh no, they’ll be working on pushing out over 700 to the wheels.

Only 24 LS9 Camaro’s will be made by Hennessy and 11 of them have already been pre-ordered. If you got a couple hundred grand laying around and fancy the new 2010 Camaro, get on the horn and talk to Mr. Hennessey. Pics after the jump!

UPDATE: HENNESSEY PRESS RELEASE AFTER THE JUMP – Performance Specs Included!

Top Gear Puts the Bugatti Veyron Around the Test Track

Some pretty fast cars have raced around the Lotus-designed Top Gear Test Track. Being at the top of the Power Lap board is almost as prestigious as have a sub-7:30.0 lap time on the Nurburgring. Last nights episode was a big one with the Pagani Zonda F Roadster managing to shave 6-tenths of a second off of the Zonda F’s lap time! To save you from Google’ing it, here’s an updated list of the top 5 fastest cars to have gone around the TG test track:

  1. 1:17.1 – Gumpert
  2. 1:17.3 – Ascari A10
  3. 1:17.6 – Koeniggsegg CCX (with the Top Gear Wing)
  4. 1:17.8 – Pagani Zonda F Roadster
  5. 1:18.4 – Pagani Zonda F

But the Zonda wasn’t the only car the Stig got to drive on last nights episode of Top Gear. He also got to put his foot down in the Bugatti Veyron. Where do you think the Veyron will finish? It’s a pretty heavy car, will it even be in the top 5 or can the 1,000 horsepower on tap overcome it’s handling limitations to let it claim it’s thrown at the top of the Power Board? Make a guess before you watch the video!
