Remember the 9ff GT9? It’s the fastest car ever built by a tuner. Sure… SSC built the Aero, a car that is 1-2 MPH faster, but they built that car from the ground up. 9ff’s are loosely based off the 911 chassis. And while there’ s not much Stuttgart left in their mad creations, at least they had a starting point.
For those of you with fuzzy memories, here’s what all the fuss was about:
- 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine
- 973 horsepower, 710 lb-ft of torque
- Curb Weight: 3047 pounds
- 243 HP/liter
- 3.13 Pounds/Horsepower
- 0-100 km/h: 3.4 seconds
- 0-200 km/h: 8.2 seconds
- 0-300 km/h: 16.4 seconds
- Top Speed: 409 km/h, or 254.77 MPH
- Cost: €498,000, which is about $730,000
It’s now been over a year since 9ff released the details of the GT9. Upon review of the project, 9ff saw a few things they could improve upon. 1st, they wanted to make it faster. 2nd, they wanted to make it uglier. They have succeeded in both, here are the official details of the 9ff GT9-R.

In what seems like an uncanny, unpossible chance of coincidence, there were some guys driving parallel to and videotaping the Bugatti when it crashed into the salty marsh. From the video, it’s clear that the guys recognized the Veyron as being an exotic car, although they weren’t sure what kind it was. As they were admiring the ulimate super car, the Bugatti all of a sudden veers to the right and hits the drink! The driver reported to the authorities that he swerved to miss a low-flying pelican, but I don’t see a pelican, do you?
But before we reserve judgment, lets review some freeze frames. You can see there is a small white smudge in front of the Veyron, which could potentially be a Pelican. However, the original report stated that the driver swerved to miss a low-flying Pelican… this smudge ain’t flying. Even if the bird wasn’t flying, if a car came so close to it that the driver had to swerve to miss it, you would think that the bird would be startled enough to fly up in the air, at least a few feet, in an act of self preservation. There are some strange details to the drivers story, but in a grassy-knoll kinda way, I’m not buying the idea that the white smudge is a pelican.
The sleuths over at AutoBlog did some digging around and discovered that the person driving the 16/4 was none other than Andy House, the owner-operator of Performance Auto Sales, the “leader in Exotic Salvage Restoration”. So far, this doesn’t look good for Andy as it sounds like it was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Although this notion is unconfirmed, but it is an unthinkable atrocity to crash an exotic car as rare as the Bugatti Veyron for some kind of business gain. Sounds pretty bad, huh?
Here’s the crash video. WARNING: EXPLICIT LANGUAGE, NSFW.

In Galveston, Texas, a local was driving his run-of-the-mill Bugatti Veyron to go prospect some “high-end” land for development. As the story goes, he was talking on his cell phone when a pelican flew in front of his 16/4, he dropped his phone, swerved to miss the bird, and hit a patch of mud. The end result is in the photo above.
Believe it or not, the $1.6 million dollar Veyron comes with a hands-free bluetooth system built in, so I smell something fishy. Video of it sitting in the salt-water drink after the jump.

Yet another edition of the extremely exclusive Bugatti Veyron has been released, and this is perhaps the most exclusive of all. The first reason is that this edition isn’t made by Bugatti. In fact, it’s a German coach builder and tuner by the name of Mansory is responsible for this one. Mansory is known for their passion for British sports and luxury cars, but I guess they are giving some of their love to their German brethren. But not too much of their love, as only three Veyron’s will be touched by Mansory’s craftsmen.
Not much is know about the Vincerò yet, except that it isn’t any more powerful than the standard Veyron. Most of the modifications appear to be visual; carbon fiber paneling adorns most of the body while polished doors, fenders and mirros provide an elegant two-tone finish. You’ll probably also notice a V emblem at the bottom of the horseshoe grill, the branded symbol of the Vincerò.
New 10-spoke alloy wheels finish off the exterior nicely while leather mesh combo dresses up the interior. All in all, this Veyron should be a little lighter and dare I say, a touch more aerodynamic, which might amount to something on the performance meter. So if 0-60 MPH in 2.5 seconds isn’t fast enough for you, maybe the Mansory will give you the edge until Bugatti releases the Super Veyron in 2010. Hit the jump to view the gallery!
Some pretty fast cars have raced around the Lotus-designed Top Gear Test Track. Being at the top of the Power Lap board is almost as prestigious as have a sub-7:30.0 lap time on the Nurburgring. Last nights episode was a big one with the Pagani Zonda F Roadster managing to shave 6-tenths of a second off of the Zonda F’s lap time! To save you from Google’ing it, here’s an updated list of the top 5 fastest cars to have gone around the TG test track:
- 1:17.1 – Gumpert
- 1:17.3 – Ascari A10
- 1:17.6 – Koeniggsegg CCX (with the Top Gear Wing)
- 1:17.8 – Pagani Zonda F Roadster
- 1:18.4 – Pagani Zonda F
But the Zonda wasn’t the only car the Stig got to drive on last nights episode of Top Gear. He also got to put his foot down in the Bugatti Veyron. Where do you think the Veyron will finish? It’s a pretty heavy car, will it even be in the top 5 or can the 1,000 horsepower on tap overcome it’s handling limitations to let it claim it’s thrown at the top of the Power Board? Make a guess before you watch the video!

9ff has bred this car for pure speed. It’s only got a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine, but it somehow manages to output an impressive 973 horsepower and 710 lb-ft of torque. That’s 247 HP/liter! The new Corvette ZR1 only produces 100 HP/liter and the Veyron is at 125 HP/liter. This is HUGE power output. Weighing in at 3047 pounds also makes it a light weight contender, a full 1/2 ton lighter than the Veyron. While it looks like a flattened out 911 with the rear bumper missing, it’s aerodynamics are tuned for just enough down force to keep in on the road at 250+ MPH. The 9ff probably won’t be a track monster due to it lacking a big spoiler, but put it on a long stretch of road where you can unwind it properly and you’ll be in for a treat. While it’s 0-60 time is nearly a full second slower than the Bugatti, it’s 0-186 MPH (300KM/H) is a full 0.6 seconds faster! That means this beast is geared for the top end, which is why it’ll eventually beat out the Veyron traveling at a claimed 254.77 MPH, a hair faster than the Veyron. It’s more exclusive than the Veyron as only 20 will be made, and it’s cheaper speed still, costing a mere £350,000 ($693,000).
The buzz on the net is that this is, in fact, a Veyron Killer. I respectfully disagree…while the 9ff is a fast car, the Veyron cannot be bested. It is the divine example a super car you can actually use in everyday life: the ride is comfortable, the interior is lavish and elegant, and the way the Veyron operates is unlike any other. You can take the Veyron to the track, to it’s top speed on the autobahn, or to the grocery store to pick up supper and it’ll do all of those tasks equally well. The Porsche has a bare bones interior, an unfinished exterior, a wooded floor, and no safety features other than a roll cage and a 5-point harness… hell, it doesn’t even have a crumple zone for an impact. Air bag, you don’t need no stinking airbag. Sure, it’s 1 MPH faster at top speed, but does that really matter when you’re butt hurts because the ride quality is terrible and the road noise is deafening? It wouldn’t matter to me.

As if I’m not dreaming about the Veyron enough, Bugatti released teaser pictures of their latest Limited Edition version of their already Limited Edition supercar. This one has been tagged the Sang Noir, or “Black Blood” for those of you who don’t know French and Americans are going to get the first crack at purchasing the lot of 15.
The car itself is all black, except for the wheels and the vibrant orange interior. An unpainted carbon fiber hood, roof, and rear body panels adorn this new beauty. A picture is worth a thousand words, so start drolling over the gallery below.
The Veyron is and forever will be legendary. It is the perfect blend of science and art, with a hell of a lot of engineering in the boot. I’ve dreamt about this car since I first saw the concept photos. I’ve even been lucky enough to see one at Symbolic Motors in La Jolla. It is even more breath taking in person. Want to dream like I do? This Bugatti Configurator should help.
