7 New Ways to Keep Your Garage and Tools Organized

Sloppy Garage

Everyone has one: a kitchen drawer crammed full of junk that you just can’t bring yourself to chuck. Mine’s brimming with rubber bands, old batteries, mysterious keys, matchbox cars, expired coupons, dusty nunchucks and questionable aspirin. But at least it’s manageable. What isn’t manageable, though, is when your garage starts to resemble that same kitchen drawer but on a larger scale. When your sockets, wrenches and screwdrivers are spread around helter-skelter, it’s practically impossible to work through any project.

Well, we’re here with some good news. We’ve added a great new selection from Excel tools to help bring some sanity back to your garage. Not only are these garage tool boxes built strong, but they’re also available in a wide range of sizes and styles. Check it out:

Excel Tool CabinetsA rolling tool chest forms the foundation for building up a serious toolbox system that would make any mechanic proud. They range from smaller 3-drawer tool chests all the way up to gargantuan 6-drawer chests with built-in cabinets.

Excel Tool Chests—Bench top toolboxes are perfectly sized to stack on top of your rooling tool chest or sit right on your workbench. They’re ideal for expanding your chest’s carrying capacity or work great by themselves. And, they’re available in everything from 2-drawer to 6-drawer sizes.

Excel Tool CartsTool cars are the natural companion for your rolling tool chest or bench top toolbox. Simply load it up with the tools you need for the job, and you’ll always have what you need on hand when you need it. Plus, when you’re done, you can easily put everything back where it belongs instead of leaving little piles of wrenches strewn around your garage.

Excel Cantilever Tool BoxGot lots of small tools and gear that needs to stay organized? A cantilever toolbox is the way to go. They’re equipped with a bunch of individual bins that fold open and close like an accordion, keeping your monkey wrenches fully segregated from your pipe wrenches.

Excel Portable Tool BoxIf you ever have to take your tools on the go, we recommend one of these portable toolboxes. However, if you have a Goth child, we don’t recommend one of these—your son is likely to litter it up with Ministry and Emily stickers and use it as a purse.

Excel Portable Tool ChestThese portable toolboxes are just like the other portable toolboxes, but they have drawers instead of removable trays. The same precautions should be taken if your kid wears fishnet pants and black nail polish.

Dee Zee Plastic Tool BoxMetal toolboxes not your cup of tea? This utility toolbox from Dee Zee is built from lightweight polymer and gives you a wide open space to store everything that’s too bulky to fit in your tool chest (e.g. that jackhammer you don’t want your wife to know you bought). And, these garage toolboxes have built-in cup holders, so you won’t accidentally kick over your brew and muck up the new alternator you started to install.

Dee Zee Rubber Mud FlapsIf these mud flaps don’t seem like they’d help organize your garage, it’s because they won’t. However, they will step the look of your rig up a few notches and protect your rear quarter-panels from slosh spray and kicked-up gravel. Also available as dually mud flaps.

New Brake Controllers, Tow Bars & Tool Cabinets – An AutoAnything Weekly Update

How many of you have ever driven up the Grapevine? It’s a beautiful pass, but it’s a mighty steep and mighty long stretch of road. Now, how many of you have ever seen an out-of-control truck screaming down the Grapevine with its trailer rocking dangerously side-to-side? It’s a startling sight, like waking in on your grandmother in the toilet.

Luckily, the tow-minded engineers over at CURT Mfg have devised a ton of quality trailer hitches and towing accessories to keep you in control of your load. Last night, we added a few more CURT accessories to the site. And, we added a few new garage toolboxes from Viper for good measure. Here’s the skinny:

CURT Discovery Brake Controller—Christopher Columbus may have discovered the New World, but CURT has made a Discovery of their own. It’s a timed brake controller, so it applies your trailer’s brakes at a steadily increasing rate the longer your foot’s on the brake pedal in the cab.

CURT Reflex Brake Controller—You brake, it brakes, we all brake with the Reflex. More advanced than the Discovery, the Reflex is an inertia brake controller, so it senses how hard you’re braking and applies an equally strong or light amount of braking strength at your trailer.

CURT Tow BarWith a 5000-lb rating, this tow bar can haul just about anything. Not that you should haul off with anything you can fit onto your flatbed trailer. For example, we recommend that you put baby Shamu back where you found him.

Viper Tool Chests—When you’re done riding the snake to the lake, the ancient lake, you can think about organizing your tools inside one of these handy Viper tool storage cabinets. They’re available in 4 sizes, from the 2-drawer cabinet that fits perfectly on top of a rollaway to a full-blown 5-drawer rollaway.

Viper Garage Cabinets—You won’t have to worry about tripping over River Phoenix in front of your Viper Garage Cabinets, unless you happen to concoct a time machine, head back to 1993, and set it up in front of the Viper Room. That’s a pretty remote possibility, though. Besides, the point of these rugged tool cabinets is to keep your garage organized and free from stuff you might trip over.
