ICONIC AC Roadster: The Rebirth Of A Rebel

ICONIC AC Roadster

The 1960s marked the apex for both British rock ‘n roll and British sports cars. The Kinks and the Beatles were tearing up the charts, and Jaguar E-Type roadsters and Aston Martin DB5s were shredding olde England’s highways. But, the undisputed king of the road was none other than the AC Cobra, a 2-seat roadster with sleek lines and a potent bite. Although the Cobra only lasted 6 short production years, it’s been resurrected by an upstart coachbuilder, ICONIC Motors, and due to reclaim its crown in August. Continue reading

The New 2011 Subaru WRX STI With A Side Of Wing!

2001 Subaru WRX STI Sedan

Fresh news from the New York Auto Show: Subaru is bringing out a new STI sedan, and the wing is back! I’m glad that the WRX design crew likes ordering their late night ‘zas from Pizza Hut. Had they not been constantly badgered by the script-reading order taker asking if they wanted to upgrade with a side of honey BBQ wings, they might never have been inspired to bring back the WRX wing. Thank you, Pizza Hut. You may clog our colons, but also inspire greatness. Continue reading

Scion Pulls New 2011 Scion iQ Out Of Their Pocket At New York Auto Show

2011-scion-iq4

The 2011 New York Auto Show is in full swing, and Scion is using the platform to unveil their latest model: the 2011 Scion iQ. First of all, we’d like to say how disappointed we are that Scion did not name it the Scion fU—it would deftly match the attitude with which Scions are driven. Nevertheless, the Scion iQ moniker is pretty smart (no pun intended), and it aptly reflects the design of this zippy micro-subcompact. Continue reading

Porsche 918 Spyder: First Look

Porsche 918 Spyder

Think hybrids are only for bookish, latte-sipping, liberal librarians from the People’s Republic of San Francisco? That may have been true before the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, but Porsche has redefined the word “hybrid” with the announcement of their visionary Porsche 918 Spyder. In our humble opinion, the only way this green machine could get more supreme is if they slathered some Stuttgart sour cream over the hood. Continue reading

The 2010 Chevy Camaro Options Dealerships Don’t Want You to Know About

2010 Camaro

Shhhhh. Are you alone? Take a look over your shoulder, under your desk, behind your fridge. Don’t see any GM representatives milling around, do you? No 5’ 9” dudes with well-groomed beards, impeccably ironed polo shirts and sensible loafers? Good. If they knew what you were about to read, they’d plotz! Continue reading

2010 Chevy Camaro Sunergy Coming Soon in Limited Numbers

2010 Chevy Camaro Sunergy

Yes, the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS is bitchin’. Even the base Camaro LS is hands-down gorgeous. But, the streets are going to be clogged with these standard trims over the coming years. If you’re looking to stand out from the Camaro herd, you’ll want to place your order for the upcoming Special Edition 2010 Chevy Camaro Sunergy. Continue reading

2010 Ford Taurus SHO: The Sleeper Awakes

2010 Ford Taurus SHO

Long the favored sedan of government fleets and giant-haired late-night talk show hosts, the Ford Taurus doesn’t exactly evoke images of tire-smoking performance. But back in the ‘90s, the Taurus had a turbocharged SHO option available, and that wicked-fast trim is coming back for the 2010 model year, but with a far more eco-friendly footprint. Better buckle up, Fish & Wildlife Service bureaucrat—your company car’s grown a pair. Continue reading

The 2011 Ford Focus: The Least Embarrassing-to-own Focus Yet

I’m not ashamed to admit that when the first Ford Focus models were unveiled back in 1999, I was a hater. It seemed like the Ford blew its load on the headlight design but didn’t have any creative juices left to finish the job. So they ended up with a bug-eyed, anemic, practical-joke of a car. Return of the King: Mustang’s New 5.0 Reins in More Horsepower & Torque for 2011

2010 Ford Mustang GT

AutoWeek has gotten the inside line on the new 5.0-liter that Ford plans to ship in the 2011 Mustang.  Brace yourself, as it sounds like Ford has made plans take hold of the reins in the American muscle ring.

412 ponies will be driven by 390 ft-lbs of torque…from a 5.0 V8… with a redline of at least 6,500 RPM.  That’s 83 horsepower per liter.  The all new aluminum block and cylinders have been designed to let the engine breathe like an Olympian running the 100-meter dash. Cast iron sleeves help protect the light-weight block while distributing large amounts of heat away from the cylinders.

Now compare this to is American breathren.  The Camaro SS outputs 422HP from it’s 6.2-liter V8, and the Challenger puts out a healthy 425 HP from its 6.1-liter SRT8 hemi.  Both vehicles should weigh considerably more than the 2011 Mustang, which should give the Blue Oval a significant advantage.

So, which would you take down to the strip?

Porsche 9ff GT9-R: Now with More Speed

Porsche 9ff GT9-R - Side View

Remember the 9ff GT9?  It’s the fastest car ever built by a tuner.  Sure… SSC built the Aero, a car that is 1-2 MPH faster, but they built that car from the ground up. 9ff’s are loosely based off the 911 chassis. And while there’ s not much Stuttgart left in their mad creations, at least they had a starting point.

For those of you with fuzzy memories, here’s what all the fuss was about:

  • 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine
  • 973 horsepower, 710 lb-ft of torque
  • Curb Weight: 3047 pounds
  • 243 HP/liter
  • 3.13 Pounds/Horsepower
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.4 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h: 8.2 seconds
  • 0-300 km/h: 16.4 seconds
  • Top Speed: 409 km/h, or 254.77 MPH
  • Cost: €498,000, which is about $730,000

It’s now been over a year since 9ff released the details of the GT9.  Upon review of the project, 9ff saw a few things they could improve upon.  1st, they wanted to make it faster.  2nd, they wanted to make it uglier.  They have succeeded in both, here are the official details of the 9ff GT9-R.

Vehicles from the 2009 LA Auto Show

AutoBlog at the LA Auto Show

Last week was the LA Auto Show. While we didn’t get to go and check out the latest vehicle models and upcoming releases, AutoBlog was there to provide complete coverage of the event.  There are many highlights from this event, but of particular interest is the Audi R8 Spyder (the hotness), the Cadillac CTS Coupe (very pointy), the Special Edition Dodge Vipers (very electric) and the Toyota Prius Plugin (very Green).   Check it out when you get a chance, you won’t be sorry. We also were able to find out about a layaway vacation plans site while researching the new vehicle models.

Fords Inflatable Seat Belts to Save Lives & Necks

Fords Inflatable Seat Belt

The idea is ingenious. We already use airbags in out steering wheels, dash boards, pillars, seats and headliners, so why not put one in a seat belt? If it works as intended, it should spread out the impact forces and reduce the amount of bruising that occurs. This could prove a major benefit for children and elderly people, who are often more prone to injuries during car crashes.  The inflatable belts are only being developed for the rear seats; featuring smooth edges and more padding that a sheepskin seat cover, these belts should prove to be more comfortable to wear that traditional belts.  Expect them to be released in the next generation Ford Explorer first, with more vehicles to follow. Get the full details from Ford after the jump.

The Z28 Returns to the Camaro Family

Chevy Camaro Z28

It’s been rumored for quite some time that the Z28 would be making a comeback, and it’s a smart move for GM as the Camaro is one of their best sellers.  The SS’s V8 is fast and throaty, while the body lines give it a sinister look… the perfect recipe for American muscle.  Well all that’s about to change for the better as it looks like the Z28 will finally become an option for new car buyers.

Spied and facebooked at the SEMA show, the above picture is probably of the new Z28.  There are absolutely no details yet, and we only know whats been rumored, which is that there’s an LSA-engine under that hood.  The LSA is the same powerplant used in the Cadillac CTS-V, which means it’ll be brutal; 550 HP and 550 FT-LBS of torque. Stay tuned, more details to follow.

New 2010 Camaro Performance Chip from SuperChips!

2010-Camaro-Hardtop-Convertible

Lets face it, the new Camaro is HOT! And we want to help make it even hotter, which is why we’ve added a new Street Scene body kit and spoiler to make it look mean.  And now you can give all that show some serious go with one of our performance chips. There’s a handful of tuners that already support the 2010 Camaro, here’s the breakdown:

  • Hypertech Max Energy – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 12+ hp, 20+ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • DiabloSport Predator– For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 10-20 hp, 10-20 ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • DiabloSport Trinity – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 10-20 hp, 10-20 ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • Jet Performance Chips – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 15-17 hp, 15-17 ft-lbs of torque (SS, manual transmission)

While these are all good options from companies that have proven their tuning abilities time and time again, now there’s a new guy on the block that’s looking to push the limits and deliver some serious performance gains.  Meet the Special Edition Superchips Flashpaq.

2010-Camaro-Superchips-Flashpaq

The Flashpaq SE delivers performance results that the others can’t touch.  If you’re sporting the SS with a manual transmission, you can now pack an additional 19.9 ponies under your hood and 18.3 ft-lbs of torque.  Did you get the automatic? Good news there too, because the drivetrain efficiencies net you 21 extra horses and 21 ft-lbs of torque!  Now that’s some serious muscle; throw on the standard bolt-on’s and you’ve got a Camaro that’ll lead any pack.  Get yours today at AutoAnything.com.

DIY Ferrari 458: It will seriously take you hours…

Ferrari 458 Italia - Exterior

It’s always been known that both Porsche and Ferrari make a majority of their profits from the custom work they put into their cars. The typical purchaser gets to choose the color of the paint, brake calipers, leather interior, stitching, tach color, etc.  Sounds like a lot, but maybe not overwhelming… guess again.
