The BedRug BedTred Truck Bed Liner: A New Way to Protect your Truck Bed

Remember when spray-in truck bed liners were all the rage? I can’t remember the exact date, but it was sometime between the advent of Ron Propeil’s GLH-9 Hair in a Can Spray and the Snuggie. (I don’t use a calendar, but I can tell the relative date of important events by where they fit on my infomercial timeline.)

Spray-in truck bed liners are a lot like Billie Mays’ the Big City Slider Station—seems like a good idea, but it just doesn’t work out well in practice. The biggest problem? You can’t take it out! It’s there for life, like it or not.

There are some great advantages to spray-in bed liners. Namely, their textured surface helps stop your stuff from sliding around. And, they do protect your bed from scratches. But, that doesn’t really make up for the permanent disfigurement.

I’ve got some good news: we just added a new accessory onto our site that gives you all the benefits of a spray-in liner without any of the drawbacks—the BedRug BedTred truck bed liner. It’s constructed from a 0.25” thick composite material with the same anti-slide texture as a spray-on bed liner. It mounts with a sturdy hook and loop system, so you can take it out without having to break out your jackhammer. And, this BedRug is custom designed for a perfect fit.

Top 10 Fastest Police Cars of the Decade

High Speed Police Chase

DiggThisThe last ten years has brought us some amazing developments in automotive technology. Bugatti brought us the Veyron, one of the fastest and most advanced cars of it’s kind. Subaru and Mitsubishi brought cheap speed to the masses. And Tata made the Nano, the most affordable car in the world.

Looking forward to the next decade, we are going to have affordable cars that have standard features like lane-assist, wireless internet and voice recognition. The possibilities are endless, but before we look to the future, lets take a quick look at the past.

Here are the Top 10 Fastest Police Car’s of the decade.

Closing out the year with wrecked exotic cars

VH1 may try and fill the airwaves with “Best of <insert topic on which has-beens can make sarcastic observations>” lists. But, we’re purists. We believe lists should be reserved for the week prior to the new year, which is this week.

That’s why we were excited to see Jalopnik compile a list of the 30 most expensive car crashes of 2009. This list elicits odd emotions, though. There’s the initial sense of schadenfreude seeing the upper-crusts’ toys crash and burn, especially in the aftermath of the economic downturn in which we’ve learned that much of the recovery has been top heavy, favoring the Richy Riches over working families. However, there’s also a secondary sense of pain seeing those exotic racers mangled, torn asunder, never to be hot-dogged down a Florida highway or a Moscow city street ever again.

The fiberglass carnage is pretty intense, so check it out only if you have a strong stomach.

New body kit accessories and Jeep gear to brighten your Xmas eve

‘Twas the night before the night before Christmas, and we were stirring—not stirring swizzle sticks, but busily toiling away to bring you 4 new products.

What was so important for us to work around the clock so close to the holiday, you ask? Anytime we have new Jeep accessories and body kits to add to the site, we work double-time. Enjoy the fruits of our labor:

RKSport FendersYou can’t shred an Yngwie Malmsteen solo on these fenders, but isn’t the world better off with less Malsteen? We think so. We also believe that these custom-made fiberglass fenders add smoking-hot style to any ride.

RKSport Fenders

RKSport Full Body KitsLike spooning sugar over plain Cheerios, installing a full body kit makes your ride scrumptious. Each body kit is custom configured with all the urethane components you need to complete your radical visual makeover.

RKSport Full Body Kits

RKSport Bumper CoversAn outrageous scarf won’t cover up your parasitic twin, but maybe a restyled bumper will distract everyone. Plus, they’re built from high-quality urethane and are fully custom made for a flawless fit.

Rampage Jeep Combo TopLike the fabled buy-one-get-one (BOGO) deal at Payless, the Rampage Jeep Combo Top is two tops in one: a top for over the front seats and a top for over the rear seats. And, you can get a solid Jeep top for total shade or a mesh top (think Right Said Fred’s shirt) for a little sun.

Nothing thaws a wintry freeze like hot ‘70s car movies

Cold snaps are springing up all over the United States and Europe like mushrooms in a hippy’s grow box. Just as the eastern seaboard began thawing out, snow storms started to drop their wintry white stuff all over the midwest and Colorado. Over in Brussels, thousands of travelers found themselves trapped when Eurostar train services were halted by the snow. It’s bedlam out there!

Luckily, the weather here is San Diego is still in the mid-60s, dipping into the 50s when the sun goes down. Although it seems brisk to us, it’s hardly blizzard conditions.

In keeping with the holiday spirit, we want to share the gift of warmth to everyone. No, we’re not flying you out to San Diego. And no, we’re not sending you tins of sterno. We’re showcasing a movie trailer for one of the 1970s’ shtik-iest car flicks: Corvette Summer. Haven’t seen it? Here’s a quick synopsis. An often shirtless Mark Hamill builds a hideous custom Stingray in his high school shop class, but the ‘Vette is stolen, so Mark teams up with a lovable Las Vegas “hooker-in-training” (Anne Potts) on a summer-long adventure to recover the car. Though it won’t stimulate your intellect, it certainly stokes the flames of nostalgia. Take a look:

What do the Lincoln Tunnel and Ground Effects have in Common?

Both famously became available on December 22. The Tunnel opened for business back in 1937, and some of the first cars to enter its stony maw are still stuck in traffic half-way through to Manhattan. We wish them god speed.

The ground effects, along with a few other new accessories, opened for business last night. Check ‘em out:

RK Sport Valances—They say it’s for improved aerodynamics and looks, but really a valance’s sole raison d’être is to get snagged on parking blocks.  Find both front & rear valances in our body kits department.

CampRight SUV Tent—Don’t let anyone tell you that pitching a tent in public is rude, especially when it’s a CampRight SUV Tent.  Covering 100 square feet, Campright designed this SUV tent to sleep up to 6 people comfortably, or even more if you don’t mind spooning.

CampRight Pop Up Tent—Who doesn’t get excited watching a Jippy Pop blister up and turn into a delicious popcorn-filled boil just begging to be lanced? Setting up your CampRight Pop Up Tent is almost as good.  What’s more, these camping tents make an excellent holiday gift for the outdoor enthusiast.

From Russia with love (but no whale penis leather)

There are a few well-known Russian exports: strong vodka, delicious caviar and mail-order brides. But did you know that one of the most luxurious (self-proclaimed) auto manufacturers is located in Lenin’s backyard? They go by the name Dartz, and they take their coach-adorning craft to scary, scary extremes.

How extreme, you ask? 3 words: whale penis leather. Let that sink in for a minute. Ponder it. Mull it over. Chew on it. Now, consider it again: whale penis leather.

Turns out, Dartz considered land mammal leather a little too gauche for one of their uber upper-crust automobiles. So they found a supplier of whale penis leather, which they intended to use for the seats. When animal rights activists, Pamela Anderson included, caught a whiff of Dartz’s plans, they protested. And the public outcry worked.

In response to the protests, Dartz left the whale penis leather out of the final design. In a cryptic press release that reads like Gogol Bordello liner notes, a Dartz company man by the name of Leonard F. Yankelovich states:

We have no any ideas to kill the whale or something like that. All we want – to make just luxury car…We just looking for most expensive products for this car – and that’s why we choosed whale penis leathure when we checked it is most of most. [Sic]

Obviously moved by the pleas of the animal rights activists, Yankelovich goes on to make a personal statement to cetaceans everywhere:

We want to tell our hello to all whales: ‘Our Sea Brothers! We all know that earth are stand on three whales – we will keep You live! We don’t Earth fall down to Ocean!’ [Sic]

In a final act of magnanimity, Dartz also commissioned the (Photoshop) construction of a tribute car to Pamela Anderson and the other animal rights activists. Take a gander:

Last-Minute Gift Ideas

Have you been paying attention to your advent calendar? There are only 7 more crappy pieces of chocolate left, and you know what that means. You’ve got to get cracking on your gift-buying. Your cousin, Jedidiah, in Provo is expecting you to make up for last year’s thoughtless (and mildly blasphemous) gift: a beard trimmer. Not sure what to get? Here are a couple of new products that we added to the site last night that might just do the trick:

Du-Ha Storage Cases

Return of the King: Mustang’s New 5.0 Reins in More Horsepower & Torque for 2011

2010 Ford Mustang GT

AutoWeek has gotten the inside line on the new 5.0-liter that Ford plans to ship in the 2011 Mustang.  Brace yourself, as it sounds like Ford has made plans take hold of the reins in the American muscle ring.

412 ponies will be driven by 390 ft-lbs of torque…from a 5.0 V8… with a redline of at least 6,500 RPM.  That’s 83 horsepower per liter.  The all new aluminum block and cylinders have been designed to let the engine breathe like an Olympian running the 100-meter dash. Cast iron sleeves help protect the light-weight block while distributing large amounts of heat away from the cylinders.

Now compare this to is American breathren.  The Camaro SS outputs 422HP from it’s 6.2-liter V8, and the Challenger puts out a healthy 425 HP from its 6.1-liter SRT8 hemi.  Both vehicles should weigh considerably more than the 2011 Mustang, which should give the Blue Oval a significant advantage.

So, which would you take down to the strip?

A place for every tool, and every tool in its place

How many times have you needed a tool but couldn’t find it? It always seems to happen when you’re elbow deep in an engine tear down and need that 7/16 open-ended spanner. Or when you’re snaked around to the backside of your toilet and need that pipe wrench. Or when your hand is trapped in a toaster and you just need something with some leverage to liberator your fingers.

Well, we added a couple of eye-catching toolboxes onto the site last night. They’ve got plenty of room to keep all your gear neat and organized. On top of that, we added some new air filters and spoilers. Check it:

10 more days to the 25th, 1 new wrap-able accessory

Prior to Thanksgiving, Chicken Little economists were flapping their gums and predicting a limp holiday shopping season—a Willy Loman Xmas where the façade of American prosperity would finally crumble under the bloat of our Visa statements and unpaid medical bills. Well, one look at the long lines at the malls is proof that shoppers are shopping with nog-soaked gusto in spite of the warnings.

But if you hate to stand in those long lines (think of the germs!), you can score all your gifts without even putting on a pair of pants. At AutoAnything, our motto is: No shirt, no shoes, no problem. And we added a new potential present up onto the site last night. Take a look:

Porsche 9ff GT9-R: Now with More Speed

Porsche 9ff GT9-R - Side View

Remember the 9ff GT9?  It’s the fastest car ever built by a tuner.  Sure… SSC built the Aero, a car that is 1-2 MPH faster, but they built that car from the ground up. 9ff’s are loosely based off the 911 chassis. And while there’ s not much Stuttgart left in their mad creations, at least they had a starting point.

For those of you with fuzzy memories, here’s what all the fuss was about:

  • 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged flat-six engine
  • 973 horsepower, 710 lb-ft of torque
  • Curb Weight: 3047 pounds
  • 243 HP/liter
  • 3.13 Pounds/Horsepower
  • 0-100 km/h: 3.4 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h: 8.2 seconds
  • 0-300 km/h: 16.4 seconds
  • Top Speed: 409 km/h, or 254.77 MPH
  • Cost: €498,000, which is about $730,000

It’s now been over a year since 9ff released the details of the GT9.  Upon review of the project, 9ff saw a few things they could improve upon.  1st, they wanted to make it faster.  2nd, they wanted to make it uglier.  They have succeeded in both, here are the official details of the 9ff GT9-R.

There’s only 1 sure fire way to make sure your loved ones don’t accidentally reveal that they know nothing about you: tell ‘em what you want. Vehicles from the 2009 LA Auto Show

AutoBlog at the LA Auto Show

Last week was the LA Auto Show. While we didn’t get to go and check out the latest vehicle models and upcoming releases, AutoBlog was there to provide complete coverage of the event.  There are many highlights from this event, but of particular interest is the Audi R8 Spyder (the hotness), the Cadillac CTS Coupe (very pointy), the Special Edition Dodge Vipers (very electric) and the Toyota Prius Plugin (very Green).   Check it out when you get a chance, you won’t be sorry. We also were able to find out about a layaway vacation plans site while researching the new vehicle models.

Group B Rally Racing will Get Your Blood Pumping

It’s Monday and it’s December, a deadly combination.  It’s hard to find the energy, and will power, to get out of bed in the morning.  If you’re still feeling grogy, here’s a vid of some old-school Group B-er’s hitting the dusty trails at 80+ MPH.  Better than your average triple expresso…

New air intakes cometh, plus a few more new products

I hate waiting. That’s why I have a love/hate relationship with the holidays. On the one hand, I love that there’s a pile of gifts waiting for me under the tree. On the other hand, I hate knowing that there’s a pile of gifts waiting for me under the tree but all I can do is poke and stare at them until the big day. Advent calendars are like chocolate torture!

You hate waiting, too. Luckily, the wait is over for the mystery air intakes. Ladies and gentlemen, shake hands with Takeda (and a few others from Rugged Ridge and Rampage products).

New Tonneau Covers, Air Intakes & Air Filters on the Way

Christmas Shopping Tag

Just a heads up to the holiday shoppers out there, we’ve got a slick new tonneau cover on the way from BAK.  It’s another BAKflip folding model, similar to the G2 and the HD.  More details to follow.

We’ve also teamed up with a new company specializing in air filters and air intakes.  Featuring state of the art construction and space age materials, these new intake parts are going to make a big splash when they land on our site. Keep an eye out for the new product release coming later this week!
