Wallpaper of the Week: 700 Horsepower Lightning GT EV

Lightning GT - Passenger Side

Lightning GT - Passenger Side

This weeks WOTW features a hot Electric Vehicle from the UK. It’s got 700 horsepower, making 0-60 achievable in four seconds flat.  And it’s not just fast; it can go 200 miles on a 10 minute charge… not too bad, eh?  Since it’s a all electric, it costs about 12 times less to power than gasoline, not to mention the tax incentives. The Lightning GT will be available for purchase in the UK sometime in 2009 for a price tag of £120,000, which is about $171,000 USD. The Lightning GT will be available to the rest of Europe and the US at a later date, but as of right now, there is no time frame for making a left-hand drive version.

Hennessey Works on the ZR1, Run’s 11 Second Quarter

Hennessey ZR700 Corvette

Hennessey is known for creating muscle cars that have so much power, they could make the earth spin underneath them. They have not deviated from their path to madness in their latest creation, the ZR700.  Here’s the basic formula; take a limited edition 640HP ZR1 Corvette, add more boost, a bigger intercooler, a K&N intake, stainless steel headers, high flow catalytic converters and an electronic tune to boost up horsepower to 705 at the crank.

Ferrari V4 Motorcycle Concept

ferrari-v4-bike-yellow

This concept wasn’t developed by Ferrari, but rather in hopes that Ferrari would pick it up for production.  It’s been designed in such detail that it is pretty much ready for production; all Ferrari would need to do is design a motor in spec with the size requires set forth in the design and then develop a suspension system to accommodate the weight.  Pretty hot stuff, no? By the way, all the images of this bike are computer generated, hit the jump to see the rest of em.

New Automotive Articles, RSS Feeds and Auto Parts Guide Pages at AutoAnything

Writing News Articles

In order to take our news that we bring to our automotive buzz followers to the next level, the AutoAnything news team has built out a brand new Automotive News department on their site that covers some of the latest industry stories about ways to style out your ride. A big topic right now is accessory ideas for the winter, and the latest Interior Protection Products Article goes over some great ideas for you to pull from.

With so many of us vehicle owners looking to preserve our beloved vehicles in today’s economic downturn, the AutoAnything team is also starting to assemble Auto Parts guides to let you know all of the key vehicle parts that you should maintain in tip-top form. Two replacement parts that have already been covered are Turbochargers and Air Pumps, two parts that many performance minded drivers may need to stay on top of.

Be sure to check both the auto articles pages and auto parts guides and you can also subscribe to their RSS Feeds or share the link to the pages by using the Share button on each page.

Grilles, Consoles, Step Bars, Brake Rotors and More – An AutoAnything Weekly Update

We’ve been staying really busy here this week, planning new sections to our site, adding fresh content and value to pages that were under-appreciated and we’ve added a handful of new products to our catalog, read on to get the full scoop.

Royalty Brake Rotors – Here’s a king you can respect—Royalty Rotors. Cross-drilled and slotted for palatine performance, silver-zinc plated for regal rust resistance and priced right for penny-pinching paupers. Get over to our brakes department and give your brakes the Royal treatment, you won’t be sorry.

Rampage Step Bars – Because you can never have too many running boards, nerf bars or whatever you want to call them, we’ve added a line of step bars from Rampage. Combining strength and style, Streamline Step Bars offer the best of both worlds. Their 5” platform gives you 50% more stepping room over regular tube steps and they’re backed by a 5-year warranty. Find these guys in our running boards department in the oval nerf bars category.

Rampage Center Consoles – When you’re banking a hard right or bouncing around off-road, the last thing you need is sunglasses, nickels and a 32 oz. Mountain Dew flying in your face. But with Rampage Center Consoles, you don’t have to worry. They remedy clutter issues and prevent your gear from going airborne. You can find these guys in the newly named center consoles & organizers category.

Carriage Works Mesh Billet Grille – Carriage Works takes aim at the upper-end mesh grille market with Marque Mesh. Said our friend Just Bob @ CW, “It’s a Strut killer.” We haven’t seen too many Strut carcasses on local freeways, but give it time. Once they get popular, they’ll start flying off the shelves senselessly – like Darren Sproles apparel. You can find this and more in our mesh grill category.

Window Canvas Hautman Window Graphics – When you’re desperate to have a 2-foot bass hanging in your rear window, Hautman graphics deliver. From fish to ducks to howling wolves, these window graphics let you plaster nature all over your car, truck or SUV.

Wallpaper of the Week: Obama’s Cadillac One!

Last week I wrote up a post outlining some speculation about Obama’s new whip. This week the details of Cadillac One are official and I’ve got some killer wallpapers for you to have.  Here’s the quick specs on the prez’s new limo:

  • 18 feet long and 5’10” high
  • 6.5-liter diesel engine
  • Max Speed: 60MPH, 0-60 in 15 seconds
  • Fuel Consumption: 8 miles per gallon
  • 8″ thick armor plated doors
  • Reinforced 5″ thick steel plate lines the underside
  • The tires are Kevlar-reinforced, which makes them shread- and puncture-resistent. If the tires do come off, the specially made steel rims can still enable the limo to escape
  • All windows are tough enough to stop armor piercing bullets
  • All windows are fixed except the drivers, which can roll down 3″. This allows him to pay tolls and talk with Secret Service agents
  • Armory includes: Night vision cameras, shotguns and tear gas
  • Medical kit includes: oxygen tanks and bottles of the presidents blood type for emergency transfusions
  • Technology includes: A State-of-the-Art laptop, satellite phone, on-board Wi-Fi and a direct line to his Vice President.

Pretty fancy stuff, now check out the goods.

The Identity of the Stig

top-gear-the-stig

…well, sort of.  The identity of the Stig, Top Gear’s official Power Lap driver, is a closely guarded secret.  So close, in fact, that when the last Stig, Perry McCarthy, publicly revealed his identity, Top Gear killed him off by driving him off an aircraft carrier at 110mph.  Fearing for his life (and probably his job), the Stig’s replacement has made sure to not make the same mistake, closely following the shows guidelines to maintain his anonymity.

But the paparazzi is persistent, to say the least, and there’s been some leaks in Top Gear’s crew.  Not enough information is known to officially put a name on who the Stig really is, but we now know that he is in his 30’s, lives comfortably in a £300,000 home and drives a boring £15,000 car.  It’s been estimated that, between his job with Top Gear and his professional stunt driving gig, the Stig makes about £150,000 per year.

To quote Jeremy Clarkson, I guess the Stig really is a Tame racing driver.  Check out the video after the jump to see the old Stig’s demise.

New Wallpaper(s) of the Week!

This week it’s more than just one wallpaper, it’s a whole gallery!  Last week I posted up the classic photo of the Bugatti Veyron running down the Salt Flats, but this week I bring you something fresh.  For the time being, it’s a car that only Japan is privy to enjoy.  It’s the latest GT-R Spec V.  Nissan just released the details, which I’ll post up soon, but they also sent out a huge collection of photos.  If you follow this blog at all, you’ll know I’m a big fan of the GT-R, so I wanted to get them posted up here ASAP so you could enjoy them.  What better post than the second WOTW?  :)

Obama’s Got a New Caddy, Backed by a Mini Gun Equipped GMC Yukon

Cadillac One - Obama's New Limo
You might have heard about the new presidential whip that Cadillac is making for Obama. It’s basically a stretched Cadillac DTS adorned with a variety of Caddy parts; Escalade headlights in the front and STS tails to bring up the rear. Ultra thick doors constructed from steel plating is estimated to be up to 8″ thick. It’s basically a tank with windows…windows made of 5″+ thick bullet proof glass. It’s been speculated that the chassis isn’t even taken from a Cadillac, but rather a medium duty truck. Bystanders have commented on the engine note, saying that it sounds like there’s a diesel under the hood. Sporting the latest technologies and the most comfortable interior ever offered to the POTUS, the Cadillac One promises to be a big step forward for the safety and comfort of our President.

If that isn’t enough to protect our future presidents, here’s a video of his backup crew in action… I pitty the fool who messes with Obama!

Nissan GT-R Demo’s Traqmate, Pulls Some Serious G’s

Anyone who doubted the GT-R’s supremacy on the track can take a look at this video.  It was taken on December 29, 2009 during the GT-R track day at Buttonwillow Raceway.  GT-R owner and driver Gary Sheehan takes his Datsun around the raceway hiting up to 1.3 G’s in the turn’s, with a sustained 1.1 G on the back hairpin.  He’s using Traqmate, a track  analysis tool that lets you record your laps with all the metrics that make a real gearhead drool.  Enjoy this video as Gary burns some rubber in a blisteringly fast lap.

New Floor Mats, Cold Air Intake, a Jeep Soft Top and More – An AutoAnything Weekly Update

We sincerely hope you all enjoyed your New Years.  If you’ve got some resolutions for 2009, put them into action now, I’m sure that ’09 will fly by just as fast as ’08 did.

One of our resolutions for 2009 is to improve the amount of quality auto parts that we carry.  We decided not to slack on it, so this week we’ve got 1 new department, 2 new brands, 5 revamped categories and 5 more auto parts for you to quench your thirst for customized auto accessories.

  • Husky Chrome Fender Vents – Because no vehicle should be without fender vents, despite how it was made. Match your vehicle’s outside to how it feels inside with a pair of chrome side fender vents from Husky. No one can tell they’re fake – really.  Available in honeycomb, louver and punch styles, you can find all three of them in our new Fender Vent category.
  • Husky WeatherBeater Floor Liners – I could make a crude joke about the WeatherBeater’s double entendre name, but these custom-molded liners don’t deserve to be jerked around. They’re the spit of the Husky Liners except that they’re ribbed with grooves to manage fluids better. They’re only sold in sets (front and rear together) and are easily installed single-handedly.  Available in the standard black, grey and tan colors.
  • WeatherTech Bug Deflector – For some folks, deflecting the criticisms of envious peers is all in a day’s work. Same goes for the WeatherTech Stone & Bug Deflector—deflecting the onslaught of bugs and debris that blast your vehicle’s hood is just what it does. Aerodynamic, sleek, virtually indestructible and features a no-drill installation.
  • RBP Cold Air Intakes – Bask in the glory that is RBP. With all the benefits you’d expect from, say, an Airaid air intake, these cold air intakes also have RBP’s wicked logo embossed on the lid.  Includes a 5-layer filter for gas engines and an extra thick 7-layer filter for diesels.

We’re also throwing a major bone to all the Jeep heads out there.  We’ve got a new Jeep Top & Doors department.  Here you can find our new Rampage Jeep soft top.  We’ve also relocated our OR-FAB Jeep door sets, their sport Jeep roll cage, Jeep bumper and spare tire carriers to this new department for your convenience.

  • Rampage Jeep Soft Top –  Rampage Jeep Soft Tops are custom-made to factory specs, come in a variety of colors and fabrics, and just look good all-around.   Do you only need to replace the fabric and windows?  Not a problem; these are available as an OEM replacement soft top or as a complete kit, allowing you to maximize your dollar and minimize waste.  You can find them in the new Jeep Tops & Doors department, under Jeep Soft Tops.

Never Underestimate the Insanity of Some People -or- How to Use a Pick Axe

Pick-axes stick in a car of a Bulgarian businessman in Burgas.  Local authorities are looking into the possibility that the vandalism could be an act of revenge against the businessman, who is a contractor in Burgas.
