It’s unclear who’s stealing the signs, whether they are religious fanatics or college students thinking it would look cool in their dorm room, but the fact of the matter is that any road sign bearing the symbolic monicker is hot property. Even mile marker 66.6 on the Jersey Turnpike has been stolen at least 4 times, which costs $50 to replace every time the sign goes missing.
So whats the solution? Change the name of the route! As you can see from the photo, at least one highway has already adopted a new name, but don’t you think a sign stating “Former 666” is going to attract just as much attention?
