Hennessey CTS-V: So Fast, On-Star Called

It’s not very often that a car is so blindingly fast that it’s on board computer management systems thinks there’s a problem. Well if it’s going to happen to anyone, it’s going to happen to John Hennessy and his crew. Watch as their 700 pony-pushing CTS-V runs an 11 second quarter-mile, and then procedes to alert On-Star because .99 G’s of acceleration registers as a “vehicle event”.

PS: This CTS-V SCREAMS!

Hennessey Dyno’s their LS9 Powered Camaro

Hennessey Camaro LS9 Dyno

Well Hennessey did it; they were able to squeeze the LS9 into a Camaro and they have officially finished tuning that beast. Here’s the video of the first dyno… can you say torque-tastic?

What Does ₩161,000,000 Buy You?

Spirra Turbo

₩ is the symbol for the Korean Won, their form of the Dollar.  161,000,000 Won sounds like a lot, and it is, roughly equating to $130,000 bucks.  For that, you could by a Corvette ZR1 and a few extra sets of tires.  Or you could buy a tricked out GT-R and mob the streets with all wheel drive prowess.  But now there’s a new option, and it’s price just so happens to be $131K.  They call it the Spirra, and it’s a quick little devil. Using a 2.7-liter V6 Hyundai engine, lifted from a Tiburon, the creator was able to squeeze out 400 horsepower by throwing on a sizable supercharger.  That’s the Spirra S, and for a car that weighs just 2,200 pounds with a full tank of gas, that’s a real nice power-to-weight ratio.  But if it want’s to compete with the aformentioned ZR1 and GT-R, or even Ferrari’s and Lambo’s, it would probably need 25% more to hold it’s own.  So they creators went back to the drawing board and threw on a turbo.  Crank the boost and you net 500 ponies from a car that weights a Keg more than an Elise.

The Spirra Turbo has a top speed in the 200+ MPH range, so you can bet that it will keep up with just about anything. Here’s a video of it dusting an F430.  The racing starts around the 3:35 mark.

Lambo SuperVeloce vs Corvette ZR1

The blokes over at AutoCar were lucky enough to pit two of the worlds fastest and most highly regarded super cars in the world. The Lambo SV has 670 Italian-bred ponies in the boot and all wheel drive, making it go from 0-60 in negative three seconds… well, maybe it can’t defy space and time, but it’s still ridiculously fast. The ZR1, on the other hand, has 30 less horsepower and 60 more pounds, meaning the Lambo should have a solid edge over the bowtie. Watch and learn why American muscle is king.

Remember that Hennessey LS9 Camaro?

It’s alive and it sounds awesome!

It Fits! ZR1 LS9 in the New Camaro

2010 Hennessey LS9 Camaro

Hennessey announced today that it was able to squeeze in the 640 horsepower LS9 into the engine bay of the new Camaro. By the looks of the photos, the engine fits quite nicely.  This is a considerable upgrade from the Camaro’s optional V8, but Hennessey wasn’t happy with just 640 ponies. Oh no, they’ll be working on pushing out over 700 to the wheels.

Only 24 LS9 Camaro’s will be made by Hennessy and 11 of them have already been pre-ordered. If you got a couple hundred grand laying around and fancy the new 2010 Camaro, get on the horn and talk to Mr. Hennessey. Pics after the jump!

PRESS RELEASE

ERA OF EXTREME RAW HORSEPOWER MAY HAVE PEAKED

Exotic Cars Are Becoming Greener with Increased Social Awareness from Buyers

St. Petersburg, FL. (October 7, 2008) – The days of new exotic cars emerging with astonishing amounts of horsepower may have reached their apex in 2009 model year and may decrease in the future, according to industry expert Tom duPont. Manufacturers at the top end of the auto industry are making luxury vehicles that perform better through lighter weight construction and advanced engine technology.

Tom duPont believes that, despite the luxury marketplaces’ tradition of resisting environmental change, the technological advancements and social implications that go along with environmentally friendly vehicles are creating a “social consciousness” and greening of the exotic car market.

Readers of the duPont REGISTRY™ Exotic Car Buyers Guide will have the chance to take a look at the current industry leaders and winners of the “Best Of” Categories – on sale October 7.

Focusing on the eleven “Best Of” categories in the annual duPont REGISTRY™ Exotic Car Buyers Guide for 2009, the key stats illustrate the new peak in horsepower and trends for 2009:

* Total Price of vehicles in the all 11 “Best of” categories rose 200 percent from 2008-2009
o $1.5 million to more than $4.5 million
* Average price for the winning 11 categories was up 118 percent – an increase of $222,000 due mostly to the addition of two $2 million plus supercars this year
o In 2008 the average price of the “Best of” car was $188,000
o In 2009 the average price was just over $410,000
* The total cumulative horsepower skyrocketed by 57 percent from 4,276 to 6,723
o That is an increase of more than 2,447 hp
* Average horsepower is up by 13 percent from 2008
o On average, there was an increase of more than 75 hp per vehicle
* Interestingly, an average engine cylinder for the 11 winners was a V-10

“The trend of increasing raw horsepower may have peaked this year,” says Thomas L. duPont, Publisher of the duPont REGISTRY™. “Some of the vehicles in this year’s guide are going to be the last of their breed and we may see the horsepower fall and the carbon footprints reduce even faster over the next three years as the parent company manufacturers take into account the environmental realities.”

With the recent introduction of powerful, ultra-luxury green machines to the automotive marketplace, there has been a fundamental shift in what influences buyers’ decisions. The annual duPont REGISTRY™ Exotic Car Buyers Guide highlights the newest and most sought-after green exotics including the $2.3 million E85 clean-burning Koenigsegg CCXR, the electric Tesla Roadster and hydrogen-fueled Ronn Motors Scorpion.

Selected by the duPont REGISTRY™ luxury automotive experts for price, performance and value, the annual list incorporates the most exclusive and most powerful to assist buyers when choosing between sedans, convertibles, and green vehicles:

Next Season of Top Gear to Start November 2, 2008: Brought to you by AutoAnything

Tickets for Top Gear’s studio audience are currently being sold for Wednesday, October 29th.  This would be for the first episode of Top Gear’s new season, which would indicate that the first episode should air on Sunday, November 2nd.  Can’t wait to see what trio has in store for us.

Sneak Peak: Judging by the photos I’ve seen, there will be a shootout between Chevy’s ZR1, the Dodge Challenger and Cadillac’s CTS-V.  Whether that will be featured in the first episode or not will remain to be seen, but it’s definitely in the works.

Top Gear Magazine Reviews the Corvette ZR1

Although their review is expectedly a far cry from what Jeremy Clarkson will have to say, the review is quite favorable.  You would think it would have to be since it holds the record for the fastest production car to go round the Nurburgring.  They found it to be compliant and supple on regular roads, but when you floor it you have limitless power.  To put it briefly, they said to “make no mistake. What we have here is one of the truly great supercars.”

I have a feeling that in Clarkson’s review, he will talk about how cheap the interor is and how flimsy the body panels are, but then he’ll throw it around the track and fall in love with it.  Time will tell, the new season of Top Gear should be starting in a few months.  Stay tuned and we’ll keep you in the loop!

The ZR1 Hits the Autobahn!

Chevy’s new ZR1 blitz’s down the Autobahn!

Nissan GT-R vs. Corvette ZR1: The Battle Continues

Chevy finally got around to putting their all-mighty ZR1 to the ultimate test: Germany’s own Nurburgring.  If you haven’t been following the dual, Nissan’s GT-R surprised everyone with a lap time of 7 minutes, 29.03 seconds… a VERY fast time.  Chevy said that their ZR1 would beat it, and the new $103K Corvette followed through with a blazing time of 7 minutes and 26.4 seconds.  Not bad, not bad at all Chevy!  They say there was also a strong headwind on the longest straight, which might have slowed it down a bit.

They only thing Chevy is sweating over now, other than the dismal car market, is Nissan’s GT-R V-Spec, the even more highly tuned and taught version of the already fast GT-R.  Unofficial times of the V-Spec put it somewhere near the 7:25 mark, and since the GT-R is already $30k less that the ZR1, Nissan has a lot of head room to play with to beat out the Vette.  Rest assured, when the official times are posted, you’ll find them here at the AutoAnything blog… this is one dog fight we’re not going to miss!

Nissan’s new GT-R is King of the ‘Ring, but for how long?

In case you’ve missed all the chatter about Nissan’s latest rendition of the Skyline, formally badged as the GT-R, it has officially set the pace on the Nurburgring with a lap time of 7:29.03.  If that lap time means little to you, maybe the following list of cars which were slower than the GT-R will mean more: the Porsche Carrera GT, Porsche 911 GT2, the Koenigsegg CCR, Mercedes’ SLR McLaren, and that limited-production-run vehicle which barely got any press coverage, the Bugatti Veyron.

Chevy has taken this harder than most other automakers.  The latest version of their iconic American super car, the 2008 Corvette Z06, ran around the ‘Ring quickly at 7:42.9 seconds, beating a stable full of super cars like the Pagani Zonda S, the race-bred Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and Ferrari’s own F430 Scuderia.  But coming up for 2009 is Chevy’s supercharged version of the Z06.  Codenamed the Blue Devil, officially released as ZR-1, Chevy says their new hot rod will beat the GT-R.  Maybe so Chevy, but are you ready for the GT-R V-Spec which is unofficially running lap times of 7:25 seconds?  We’ll see come the new year…for those of you that haven’t seen what the new GT-R is all about, scope the pics below.
