2010 Specter Werkes Corvette GTR Gets Our Motors Running

November 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

2010-Specter-Werkes-Corvette-GTR-Wheels-Brakes

Officially unveiled at the 2009 SEMA Show, Specter Werkes has shown the public what their 2010 C6 GTR is made of. Based on the mighty 500 horsepower Z06 platform, this Vette is far from stock.  Powered by Lingenfelter’s twin-turbo system for the LS7, this C6 now boasts 800 horsepower to the wheels and enough torque to spin the world backwards.

A custom body kit, vented hood, front lip and matte-black rear fascia clean up the exterior.  Overall, I think it looks good, but those rear exhaust tips are a little over the top.  Carbon fiber wheels adorn each corner, wrapped in Pilot Sport PS2 rubber, surrounding a StopTech 6-piston BBK.  The wheels are made by HRE and weigh in at only 22 pounds each, not bad for 20’s! Press release and 5 more pics after the break!

The Z28 Returns to the Camaro Family

November 2, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Chevy Camaro Z28

It’s been rumored for quite some time that the Z28 would be making a comeback, and it’s a smart move for GM as the Camaro is one of their best sellers.  The SS’s V8 is fast and throaty, while the body lines give it a sinister look… the perfect recipe for American muscle.  Well all that’s about to change for the better as it looks like the Z28 will finally become an option for new car buyers.

Spied and facebooked at the SEMA show, the above picture is probably of the new Z28.  There are absolutely no details yet, and we only know whats been rumored, which is that there’s an LSA-engine under that hood.  The LSA is the same powerplant used in the Cadillac CTS-V, which means it’ll be brutal; 550 HP and 550 FT-LBS of torque. Stay tuned, more details to follow.

New 2010 Camaro Performance Chip from SuperChips!

October 29, 2009 · 3 Comments

2010-Camaro-Hardtop-Convertible

Lets face it, the new Camaro is HOT! And we want to help make it even hotter, which is why we’ve added a new Street Scene body kit and spoiler to make it look mean.  And now you can give all that show some serious go with one of our performance chips. There’s a handful of tuners that already support the 2010 Camaro, here’s the breakdown:

  • Hypertech Max Energy – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 12+ hp, 20+ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • DiabloSport Predator- For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 10-20 hp, 10-20 ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • DiabloSport Trinity – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 10-20 hp, 10-20 ft-lbs of torque (manual transmission)
  • Jet Performance Chips – For the 6.2L engine, you get an estimated 15-17 hp, 15-17 ft-lbs of torque (SS, manual transmission)

While these are all good options from companies that have proven their tuning abilities time and time again, now there’s a new guy on the block that’s looking to push the limits and deliver some serious performance gains.  Meet the Special Edition Superchips Flashpaq.

2010-Camaro-Superchips-Flashpaq

The Flashpaq SE delivers performance results that the others can’t touch.  If you’re sporting the SS with a manual transmission, you can now pack an additional 19.9 ponies under your hood and 18.3 ft-lbs of torque.  Did you get the automatic? Good news there too, because the drivetrain efficiencies net you 21 extra horses and 21 ft-lbs of torque!  Now that’s some serious muscle; throw on the standard bolt-on’s and you’ve got a Camaro that’ll lead any pack.  Get yours today at AutoAnything.com.

Hennessey CTS-V: So Fast, On-Star Called

October 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

It’s not very often that a car is so blindingly fast that it’s on board computer management systems thinks there’s a problem. Well if it’s going to happen to anyone, it’s going to happen to John Hennessy and his crew. Watch as their 700 pony-pushing CTS-V runs an 11 second quarter-mile, and then procedes to alert On-Star because .99 G’s of acceleration registers as a “vehicle event”.

PS: This CTS-V SCREAMS!

2010 Camaro Body Kit – Front Lip Spoiler, Rear Spoiler & Side Skirts

October 19, 2009 · 2 Comments

FYI, if you’re lucky enough to own one of these fine examples of American muscle, then you can now give it a more aggressive look with a custom body kit.  We’ve teamed up with Street Scene to offer you a full body kit that is hot of the presses. Pick and choose your parts to make your own great look, or get all three for a more composed style.  We are working on getting some better images up on the site, but it’s the same kit to be featured on the WD-40 Camaro at SEMA this year.

Here’s a few shots of the WD40 car, courtesy of the Camaro5 Forum:

Rumor: Next Gen Corvette to Bring Back Split Window Design

September 22, 2009 · Leave a Comment

1963 Corvette Split Window

One of the most iconic designs in the Corvette’s history is the split window design from the 1963 model year. Yes, it hinders the drivers vision out the rear window, but it provides a beautiful swatch of metal to paint in an area usually reserved for glass. In 1964, the split window design got the axe, ultimately replaced by a huge sheet of glass. Well next year is the Corvette’s centennial anniversary, and GM is considering bringing back the split rear window style. As I see it, there are a couple pros and cons to this:

Pros

  1. Elegant exterior styling (duh!)
  2. Could work as a structural brace, providing a stiffer chassis design
  3. The possibility of having the split window be completely transparent, by means of fancy aero-space materials and technologies.  Think electro-transparent panoramic glass, like that featured in the new Maybach’s.

Cons

  1. Rear vision could be blocked, or seriously hindered. This could be solved by having a rear camera installed by the license plate.
  2. It could add a considerable amount to the bottom line of buying a Corvette
  3. It doesn’t represent a drastic leap in styling, is it really going to be worth it?

Papa Johns Gives Away 35,847 Pizza’s!

August 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Papa John and His Camaro

That’s a lotta pizza-pie, but to get it for free, you had to pick it up in your Camaro.  That’s amore!

In case you missed the headline, the Papa J0hn Schnatter of Papa John’s was searching for his long lost 1972 Z28 Camaro, the one he had to sell to open the very first Papa John’s.   It was a beauty, one that he dearly loved.  After more than 30 years, he decided to leverage his wealth, start a search, make a website and offer a $250,000 reward!

Jalopnik championed coverage of the story, encouraged their readers to help and one of them actually found it!  Now the Papa has been reunited, Jeff Robinson is $250K richer and 35,847 proud Camaro owners have a full belly… I guess there is such a thing as a happy ending.

Lambo SuperVeloce vs Corvette ZR1

August 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The blokes over at AutoCar were lucky enough to pit two of the worlds fastest and most highly regarded super cars in the world. The Lambo SV has 670 Italian-bred ponies in the boot and all wheel drive, making it go from 0-60 in negative three seconds… well, maybe it can’t defy space and time, but it’s still ridiculously fast. The ZR1, on the other hand, has 30 less horsepower and 60 more pounds, meaning the Lambo should have a solid edge over the bowtie. Watch and learn why American muscle is king.

It Fits! ZR1 LS9 in the New Camaro

June 15, 2009 · 3 Comments

2010 Hennessey LS9 Camaro

Hennessey announced today that it was able to squeeze in the 640 horsepower LS9 into the engine bay of the new Camaro. By the looks of the photos, the engine fits quite nicely.  This is a considerable upgrade from the Camaro’s optional V8, but Hennessey wasn’t happy with just 640 ponies. Oh no, they’ll be working on pushing out over 700 to the wheels.

Only 24 LS9 Camaro’s will be made by Hennessy and 11 of them have already been pre-ordered. If you got a couple hundred grand laying around and fancy the new 2010 Camaro, get on the horn and talk to Mr. Hennessey. Pics after the jump!

UPDATE: HENNESSEY PRESS RELEASE AFTER THE JUMP – Performance Specs Included!

2010 Chevy Corvette, Now with more Grand Sport

April 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

2010 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport - Red

Great news for those of us who are longing to see the 2010 Corvette: Chevy recently announced to bring back the Corvette Grand Sport for next year. The Z51 performance package will be discontinued and replaced with a Grand Sport model touting Z06 body pieces and some unique performance upgrades.  New bits from the Chevy parts bin will allow for a  greater degree of handling performance; wider wheels and tires, revised shocks, beefier stabilizer bars, new spring specs and tranny-specific gearing will all be included on every Grand Sport model. The new race-bred suspension will give it distinctive, starting grid performance. The new Grand Sport will be offered in both coupe and convertible body styles, available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet puts the same 6.2L LS3 V8 into the new Grand Sport, giving you an extremely capable 430hp to tap into. Some versions will be equipped with a two-mode exhaust, which even raises horsepower from 430hp to 436hp. Chevrolet also announced a 0.2-sec drop in the Grand Sport’s 0-60 mph times. The new 2010 model is equipped with 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels wrapped in super-sticky 275/35ZR18 and 325/30ZR19 tires, front and rear. Want more details? We’ll be back soon with more news and pictures as they become available. If you currently own a Vette and need some replacement parts, you can be sure to find them in our Corvette parts section.

2010 Chevy Camaro

Someone out there got their mitts on the official 2010 Chevy Camaro Ordering Guide. This is 40 pages of pure Muscle Car Madness! You can build your dream machine or a budget booster, your choice. Given the current economic condition, I think I’d be happy saving some money on the base model 300 Horsepower V6 and then customize it with the standard American muscle mods; intake, chip and exhaust. With those kinds of mods, you should be able to squeeze out another 50-60 horses, making your baseline Camaro produce about 20% more power.  Mmm, mmm good….

Make your decision today by checking out the ordering guide on Scribd.com.

Hennessey ZR700 Corvette

Hennessey is known for creating muscle cars that have so much power, they could make the earth spin underneath them. They have not deviated from their path to madness in their latest creation, the ZR700.  Here’s the basic formula; take a limited edition 640HP ZR1 Corvette, add more boost, a bigger intercooler, a K&N intake, stainless steel headers, high flow catalytic converters and an electronic tune to boost up horsepower to 705 at the crank.

The Cheap Trick Dream Police Tactical Vehicle – SEMA 2008

November 8, 2008 · 2 Comments

The Cheap Trick Dream Police Tactical Vehicle

Hello there ladies and gentlemen. Are you ready to rock? Are you ready or not? SEMA has been a lot of fun this year, from the show floor to the late night action that is Vegas. But for this diehard rock music fan, the standout was RWC’s Cheap Trick Dream Police Tactical Vehicle.

According to Bjorn Cannon at the RWC booth, the Dream Police Tactical Vehicle was created to commemorate the upcoming 30th anniversary of Cheap Trick’s 1979, platinum selling album Dream Police. RWC had built out true police tactical vehicles in the past, but none that could transport you all the way back to the Budokan.

The folks at RWC nailed this project like a Bun E. Carlos drum fill. From its custom-built tele headstock-shaped side view mirrors and detailed Cheap Trick graphics to the Rick Nielsen signature Hamer guitar holding down the shotgun position in the front seats, the Dream Police Tactical Vehicle keeps perfect time with the concept.

But, they didn’t quit there. The bed of the Dream Police ride has been transformed into the ultimate arena rock experience complete with strobe and laser lights, fog machine and a 32” LCD monitor for playing ROCKBAND 2. What’s more, there are enough tweeters, woofers and subs to rock even the largest venue.

Of course I was at the show on AutoAnything official business, so my interest went beyond the vehicle’s rock ‘n’ roll styling.  They started with a stock Chevy Avalanche and packed it full with all of the aforementioned goodies as well as bevy of fun aftermarket accessories. You’ll find a Corsa exhaust system, a Grant Products steering wheel, KC HiLites, an RBP billet grille, Superlift suspension and so much more on this crazy ride. With all of the performance upgrades, even Robin Zander could escape from the frenzied groupies and rock chicks that chase him around after the show.

Corvette ZR1 Knocked Four Seconds Off its Lap Time Around the Ring!

October 28, 2008 · 1 Comment

We all know that the Corvette ZR1 is a beast, and today it has proved itself yet again.  Jan Magnussen was at the wheel in the ZR1 this time and 73 turns later he was able to knock 4 seconds off the ZR1’s previous time of 7:26.4.

The new time of 7:22.4 seconds is fast.  Really really fast, but it’s still .3 seconds behind Dodge’s best run in their Viper ACR.  To be honest, these times should all be considered unofficial until the top manufacturers get together at the ‘Ring on the same day and run their cars at the same time in similar weather conditions.  Then we’ll really have something to compare the cars against and nobody can call foul on using modified cars and upgraded tires.  Porsche, I’m looking in your direction.

Stay tuned, I’m sure GM will be releasing the video soon!

Chevy Corvette ZR-1 Specs Released

June 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Today Chevy released the official numbers for their legendary race car.  For $103,000 you can rocket up to 60 mph in just 3.4 sec, run the quarter-mile in 11.3 sec at around 131mph, and then keep you can keep that petal floored until you hit 205 mph.  The performance figures are quite impressive, as is the thorough use of carbon fiber…but what we at AutoAnything want to know is how fast it’ll run around the Nurburgring!  Can Chevy fulfill the Corvette’s destiny to be King of the ‘Ring, or will Nissan hold onto that title for a while longer?  Let me know what you think, pictures of the new Vette are below.
